About Us
Aikido was founded in 1942 by Morihei Ueshiba, a man who remained invincible as a martial artist. Through his unique vision he was able to share hidden teachings and universal truths to change the face of martial arts. Aikido takes some of the spiritual exercises and philosophy of zen, yoga, meditation and healing arts and it blends these with soft, defensive-only techniques that were created by a Master with extensive martial arts training in judo, jujutsu and daito ryu aiki jutsu. Aikido, the "Art of Peace" ,is a soft defensive Japanese martial art which offers a very effective, non-violent solution to conflict based on relaxation, harmony and compassion.
Aikido harmonizes with the energy of the attacker, using the attackers own energy to unbalance them by entering and blending with them in a circular and flowing motion. As the attacker is unbalanced they are controlled through joint locks, pins and throws. Students will be taught how to safely fall and roll out of a throw. Aikido is non-competitive, and if done properly does not rely on muscle strength.
Aikido classes consist of mind-body coordination exercises, ki-development exercises, and self-defense technique training. It is practiced by men and women of all ages.
Mission Statement: To become one with the Universe in heart, mind, body and spirit. We practice aikido and the Principles of the Universe focusing on wisdom, flow and compassion in order to generate Universal love.
We practice a unique combination of Ki Style aikido and O'Sensei's spirituality blending physics with metaphysics. Universal Ki Aikido follows the Ki Style aikido of Koichi Tohei's (10th Dan) Shin Shin Toitsu aikido with some additional kumi waza, personal growth and ki development requirements.
There are 6 Kyu levels which proceed to the Enso, the Aiki Enso, and finally the Universal Enso. We protect ourselves as well as our attacker whenever possible.
Everyone has access to the ki of the Universe.
