Janice Walter co-founded Universal Ki-Aikido in September 2006 with the assistance of two other co-founders and has led the group since day one.  She began practicing Ki-Aikido in Kingston at the Correctional Services College nearly a decade ago under Dennis Burr Sensei, 2nd Dan.

Steve Rockel Sensei, 1st Dan (Ki-Aikido and Judo), has been doing ki-aikido for nearly two decades.  As well as being one of the original 3 co-founders of Universal Ki-Aikido, he was one of the founding members of the Kingston Ki-Aikido group started under Rev. Bill Bickford Sensei, 3rd Dan.  Bickford Sensei started 7 aikido dojo's in Ontario himself, including the Kingston and Cambridge dojo's where Janice has practiced.  Following in Bickford Sensei's footsteps in helping to found multiple dojo's, Steve is a tremendous help to us here in Elgin, and he has volunteered hundreds of hours practicing, teaching and also helping out behind the scenes.  He is always present for review and testing of individuals, and he was here when Dave Elliott tested recently.

Dave Elliot received his 3rd kyu Hakama in July 2010, a Japanese style black pleated pair of  pants senior aikido students wear in the dojo over the gi, the traditional martial arts uniform.  In Universal ki aikido the hakama symbolizes someone who is on the path and understands the concepts of aikido enough to be able to teach and remain self--determinedly headed in the right direction even while they are still learning. Because aikido is an infinite art, we never stop learning.  Dave has been doing aikido for 4 years here in Elgin, and this is his 4th belt level.  In order to complete this belt level he had to create a new technqiue that utilized all of the ki-aikido principles, learn how to relax completely in the face of an attack, and successfully complete the ki development and self-defense technique criteria for the belt level, including defending against several continued attacks.
Upcoming Events

Koichi Kashiwaya Sensei, 8th Dan, Chief Instructor of the Midland Ki Federation has studied Aikido for more than 30 years and is the North American representative of Tohei Sensei, founder of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido.  He will be presenting a Ki-Aikido seminar in Cambrdige, Ontario on September 17-19, 2010.
